A Mission on a Mission
Baptism: In your circle of family and friends, maybe someone has expressed an interest in being baptized, in Jesus' name, into the body of Christ. Knowing that a person is not “baptized” into a local assembly (church, fellowship, etc.) but is baptized into the body of Christ through repentance, confession, and baptism, and receiving the free gift of the Holy Spirit (Act 2:38, Romans 10:9-13), a person is baptized into the Body of Christ through his blood, the work performed at Calvary represented in water baptism (Matthew 3:16-17). Water baptism is full immersion into a body of water, where the baptism candidate is submerged (representing death on the “old man” and returned out of the water as a “new man” (2nd Corinthians 5:17). From there, the Holy Spirit will guide that new believer (your new brother and/or sister in Christ) to a local assembly of believers, to a church that preaches Jesus Christ and the salvation and the hope that he provides.
Holy Communion: Holy Communion is the representation of a Christian partaking of the life extended by God through the death, burial, and resurrection of his Son, Jesus the Christ. Reading 1st Corinthians 11:23-32, we get a full picture of the love God extended toward man so that man might be redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb and continue in the fellowship of that relationship between God and man through Jesus the Christ.
